One man has been detained after driving a car through barricades at Istanbul Police Headquarters in Fatih early this morning, forcing officers on duty to open fire to halt his progress.

S.O., who is reportedly a police officer in İzmir’s Karabağlar district, drove into the Istanbul Police headquarters at 3 a.m. passing the barricades and disobeying warning to stop. In response, police officers on guard in front of the headquarters opened fire, blowing out the car’s tires.

As he was being detained, the suspect received wounds to his head after reportedly hitting his head on the pavement. S.O. reportedly called the headquarters before the incident, saying he wanted to talk to Istanbul Police Chief Hüseyin Çapkın. The suspect reportedly said he wanted to seek help from Çapkın, who was previously İzmir’s police chief.
