One soldier was killed on April 23 in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) attack in the southeastern province of Mardin.

Gendarmerie specialized sergeant Ethem Hacımahmutoğlu was heavily wounded by PKK sharpshooter fire during operations in the Nusaybin district at around 8 a.m. He was immediately taken to the Nusaybin State Hospital but later succumbed to injuries despite all efforts.

Security forces operation in the district was ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Turkish General Staff has announced that a total of six PKK militants were killed in operations on April 22 in Mardin and Şırnak provinces.
