Siemens Turkey launches innovation contest for young people

Siemens Turkey has launched an innovation competition for young people to encourage innovative ideas with the motto “some inventions change the world,” the company said by a press release on March 11.

Any senior undergraduate students, new graduates or graduate students under the age of 35 can apply for the contest until May 30. The winners of the contest will be announced in June, said the company.

The winners will have the chance to win a trip to a three-month Siemens Innovation camp in Turkey, Germany, India or China.

“Siemens employs a total of 29,000 research and development staff around the world. The company made around 4.1 billion euros in R&D activities in 2014… Siemens has built cooperation with many universities globally and locally. Here in Turkey we want to make a contribution to encouraging innovation among young people,” said Siemens Turkey chairman and CEO Hüseyin Gelis.

He added Siemens Turkey has allocated around 45 million Turkish Liras for R&D activities in 2015 and the company employs over 250 people in one of the leading R&D centers of Europe.

This year, the company has three challenges to be addressed by potential inventors, read the press release. Potential inventors will choose to develop projects in the categories of integrative transportation in smart cities, therapy rooms in the future and security in smart grids. Then, eight successful candidates will develop prototypes in the Siemens Lab in Istanbul and have a mentor from the company. The best three projects will then be chosen and awarded.
