ISTANBUL - Anadolu Agency
An Istanbul court has arrested the serial killer responsible for the murder of four people on voluntary manslaughter charges, a day after news of the killings broke.

The suspect, identified as Deniz Ş., was detained soon after the four victims were discovered. The victims included the suspect’s older sister, Songül Polat.

Songül Polat, aged 37, was shot dead in the head in her jeep first, before 26-year-old Aziz Caner Emre was killed by a shot to the head in a hotel room. The third murder came soon after in the same district, when 39-year-old Yaşar Deli was murdered with a machete.

Polat’s body was found in her jeep at 3 p.m. in the Yedikule neighborhood of Istanbul, after gunfire was heard by people in the area. Three empty bullets were found at the crime scene by the police, and Polat’s body was sent to the forensic medicine department for an autopsy.

At 4 p.m. Aziz Caner Emre was found dead in the room of a hostel in the Seyit Ömer neighborhood.

Deniz Ş. was sent to court after initial proceedings. The court ruled against him on accusations of voluntary manslaughter.
