A curfew declared in the southeastern province of Şırnak’s Cizre district since 7 p.m. on Sept. 13 has been lifted, an official statement announced on Sept. 14.

This was the second curfew declared in Cizre, where putative operations to apprehend members of the “separatist terrorist organization” – an official euphemism for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) – were ongoing, and came just 36 hours after the state finally lifted a siege that had last more than a week and which resulted in the deaths of more than 20 civilians.

The curfew began at 7 p.m. on Sept. 13 and ended at 7 a.m. on Sept. 14, the district governor’s office said in a statement.
