A scuffle erupted between a group of Syrian refugees and security forces outside the Şanlıurfa refugee camp on Feb. 26, after the refugees were refused authorization to enter the camp.

The group, which was reportedly seeking to settle in the newly-established Harran camp, asked to enter the camp, but security forces rejected the application because they were not registered on the camp’s official list. The ensuing quarrel turned into fight with stones and sticks, and resulted in a total of 35 people being injured, including a fireman, six soldiers, 13 security forces and 15 Syrians. The wounded people were taken to hospitals in Şanlıurfa, Akçakale and Harran.

Harran district governor Selami Yazıcı said they had held a meeting with the representatives of the group after the clashes, adding that they had noted the demands and would respond to them to the best of their capabilities.
