School children hospitalized over food poisoning suspicion

Eighty kindergarten students and two teachers have been hospitalized on suspicion of food poisoning after eating chicken and rice in the western province of Denizli.

The hospitalization comes after a kindergarten in Denizli’s Çivril district held an event to celebrate National Sovereignty and Children’s Day on April 23, to which parents brought food to the school for charity sale, including chicken and rice.

Leftover chicken and rice from the event was reportedly served to students a few days later.

Some 70 students and 2 teachers were taken to the hospital with symptoms of diarrhea, dizziness and vomiting, and 32 received treatment for food poisoning. Some 38 of them were kept in hospital and 10 students were called to the hospital as a precaution.

A sample of the food has been taken for analysis and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
