Romanian-born piano prodigy Mihaela Ursuleasa has been found dead in her Vienna apartment after suffering a brain hemorrhage, Vienna police said Aug. 3.

The 33-year-old winner of the prestigious Clara Haskil prize was found in her flat on Thursday morning, police said, adding that any involvement by a third party had been firmly ruled out.

“We are in deep mourning after Mihaela’s sudden and unexpected death,” a note on the pianist’s website read on Aug. 3.

Born in 1978 in Brasov, Romania, Ursuleasa began her music career at a young age, later moving to Vienna to further her piano studies. She won the Clara Haskil competition in 1995.

Ursuleasa performed with the London Philharmonic, the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Berlin and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra among others, appearing at major international events such as the Salzburg Festival and the Beethoven festivals in Warsaw and Bonn.

She also appeared at renowned venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Vienna’s Konzerthaus.

Several concert dates had been planned in August in Germany and Poland and she had been due to tour Brazil and Argentina in the autumn, according to her music management company’s website.
