The first roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) expedition from Turkey’s Black Sea port of Ereğli to the Iliechevsk port of Ukraine took place on Sept. 21, with a ship carrying around 1,200 tons of fruit completing the inaugural journey.

“In the initial stage, there will be two journeys between the two ports, but the number of expeditions will increase in the near future with the addition of two ships, Black Sea-K and Samsun Express, to the fleet,” said the head of the Western Black Sea Marine Trade Chamber, İrfan Erdem, in a written statement.
He added that this move was of great significance on the road to develop the marine sector and to revive the economic activities in the region.

Ro-Ro ships are vessels designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as automobiles, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, trailers, and railroad cars, that are driven on and off the ship on their own wheels.
