Members of Turkey's Parliamentary Human Rights Commission were given permission to visit the Apaydın refugee camp in the southern province of Hatay today.

The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu at Ankara's Esenboğa airport before he departed for New York to attend a United Nations Security Council meeting.

Davutoğlu said the Human Rights Commission had been granted access to the camp, after controversy was sparked when deputies from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) were barred from entering the camp on Aug. 25.

Apaydın camp is known to house military personnel who had defected from the Syrian army to join the opposition.

Commission Chairman Ayhan Sefer Üstün said they were able to visit the camp within a week, after the issuing of an official permit.
