Relations reflect at theater stage

Turkish theater company DOT is continuing to stage its play “İki Kişilik Bir Oyun” (A Play of Two People), which was previously staged as part of the 15th Istanbul Theater Festival in 2006.The short play is comprised of one-word dialogues uttered by two people, thrown back and forth at each other at a fast pace. The characters, interchangeable in every play among the people cast of one man and one woman meet, fall in love, make love and become intense before becoming bored, beginning to fight each other and ultimately forgetting each other. Despite this, they keep trying again. The play, which shows two unnamed characters constantly climbing up and down on two large, web-like ladders facing each other, attempts to depict the phases of a romantic relationship in single words. The dialogues ultimately descend into repetitive clichés as are often seen in love stories, allowing viewers to question what makes a love play.
