A prosecutor's office running an investigation into the RedHack group has asked that police recognize the group as a "terrorist organization," daily Radikal reported today.

The prosecutor based the request on the fact that the socialist hacking group used a hammer-and-sickle logo and had a political manifesto.

Turkish authorities began a fresh crackdown on RedHack after the group defaced a Foreign Ministry web page July 3 and revealed the identities of hundreds of foreign diplomatic personnel working in Turkey.

The prosecutor asked the Turkish Police Directorate and the Anti-Terrorism Division to approach the investigation into RedHack again with the understanding that the group is a terrorist organization. Official sources said they investigated the actions of RedHack within the scope of "informatics crimes," which delayed the apprehension of suspects. They said the course of the investigation would change if the group was recognized as a terrorist organization.

Seven suspects are already under arrest for being members of RedHack. The group says those who are under arrest are innocent and have demanded their release every time they hack a government website.
