Turkey should be prepared for war if it wants to have peace, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said today during a speech in Istanbul.

"We are not war-lovers, but we are not far from war either," Erdoğan said. "The saying goes: 'prepare for war if you wish for peace.' So, war becomes the key for peace."

"They ask whether their kids will go to war? If need be, we, including myself, will all go all the way there," Erdoğan said.

"What peace?" Erdoğan shouted. "What peace?"

Regarding the vacation Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had previously taken in Bodrum on Erdoğan's personal invitation, and the close relationship that used to exist between the two, Erdoğan said there was nothing strange about it.

"If we are at peace, I will host leaders," Erdoğan said.

@ Sid Marks I couldnt have agreed more.I said a year ago Turkey was makeing a big mistake agreeing to the Nato radar shield to protect Israel.Turkey should have left Nato and joined the Islamic world, instead it followed the Americans,Now its lost two big trading partners.Instead Turkey faces them as hostile enemies.Iran is out to make Turkey pay for its treachery as they see it when they installed the shield.By arming its Shia brothers against Turkey, while Israel and America watches.

A that quote attributed to Leon Trotsky could be applicable to Turkey given the situation on the border with Syria: “You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.”

Speak softly, BUT carry a big stick!!!! Now if the esteemed PM could get the first part right. I just can't figure out how this figures in with "Peace at home, Peace in the World" and....wait for it.....Zero Problems with Neighbors. hmmmmm? IF war preparation involved restoring the generals to their rightful places then I am all for it. Let the preparations begin.

I absolutely agree with @Recep Ozel. I couldn't have said it better myself. As for freedom and peace, only come with diplomacy and political strategies. Let me use an example familiar to Turks: we Greeks got our freedom from the Ottoman Empire not only because we fought and died for it...no. Also because Europe decided to use as as a shiled against the growing strength of the Ottoman Turks, they were a threat to them too so all of a sudden they remembered to help us get our freedom after 400 y

The presence not western but eastern sunni guests, including Mr.Barzani, at AKP congress, the parliamentary approval of cross border military operations, following sudden mortar attacks from Syria and the PM's war rhetoric indicates that Turkey will initiate a military operation in dominantly Kurdish occupied Syrian territory.

Amen for that @Don Huntington .... @Recep Ozel very poor example you can't compare Turkey to South Africa , Mandela was fighting for his right in his country .... @Johanna Dew, Syria is a Muslim country if you don't know ! so next time try something else that make more sense to discredit Mr.Erdoğan Aren't we always ready for war ? isn't that why we have army ? how about lets dissolve the Army to make some of you happy
