A police
officer was killed in a gun attack by suspected members of the Kurdistan
Workers’ Party (PKK) last night in the southeastern province of Mardin,
Anatolia news agency has reported.
Three militants reportedly opened fire with long-barreled
weapons on a police car that contained law enforcement officers patrolling at
Mardin State Hospital. A clash occurred when policemen returned fire.
The police officer, Cengiz Engizek, was rushed to
hospital after being injured in the clash, but was later pronounced dead.
An operation has been launched to capture the militants
who fled the scene.
