Police officers used tear gas on 14-year-old football players when arguments broke out between players and the referee on the field during the elimination matches of U-14 Turkish Football Championship, Doğan news agency reported.

Bursaspor scored the third goal during extra time, however, İkitellispor players objected to the goal.

The game ended with the referee deciding in favor of Bursa Yolspor, ruling for the Bursa win; however the objections wouldn’t stop coming from the İkitellispor players. Five of the players received red cards but refused to back down. The arguments continued.

Police forces then intervened, coming down to the field, and using tear gas to disperse the players. The benches of İkitellispor, including the coach, also got involved and the mayhem lasted for a while until the children were taken to near-by hospitals to receive treatment.

Club president Abdülselam condemned the actions of the police, saying, “We have filed complaints against the police officers. They went down into the field and used tear gas and police batons on our children.”

This is the rise of a tear gas authoritarism regime: no death, just humiliation.

WELL DONE, and to all those who reacted....a few months ago one of our referees was kicked in the head by 16 year old Moroccon players in the Netherlands. He died the next day!! In the USA a referee was kicked in the head last week and died...And you come down on the police here and talk of those hooligan players as childeren???THAT is disgusting and naming AKP in every reaction because you disagree with the police that is really SICK...You should punish bad behaviour, not praise it.

That’s right, police knows how to deal with hooligans, how dare they object to the authority, referee today AKP tomorrow. That cannot be allowed. I heard the kindergarten toddlers can be quite a handful, especially when they have full nappies. It won’t be long before they employ those gas/pepper sprays to silence those little trouble makers too.

We are always talking about what a bad influence television can be on our youth the World over. Just imagine if your roll models were the Turkish MPs who think nothing of throwing punches in Parliament, or the hooligans who terrorize the streets after a Turkish league game. These kids are doing nothing but modeling their parents/society's behavior. The police...disgraceful behavior.

As well as producing it's first infantry rifle, Turkey has now produced new methods of dealing with children! I expect to read about tear gas being made widely available from baby and children's shops soon.

Unfortunately, uncivilized behavior gets uncivilized consequences!
