Police raid ISIL cell, prevent planned attack in Istanbul

Police raid ISIL cell, prevent planned attack in Istanbul Police detained two Islamic State Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) suspects in a noon raid in Istanbul’s Kağıthane district on March 16, as the suspects were allegedly preparing an attack in the city.

The suspects are reportedly from the same ISIL cell as Abdulkadir Masharipov, the militant who attacked the Reina nightclub in Istanbul on New Year’s Eve, killing 39 people.

Police also seized over 500 bullets and two Kalashnikov rifles as they detained two suspects who had allegedly come to Istanbul to stage a new attack.

The two suspects were detained at a cell house in Kağıthane and were taken to a police station for their testimonies.
