A police officer who was wounded in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack in the Gürpınar district of the eastern province of Van succumbed to his injuries on Aug. 9.

Police officer Ömer Faruk Bol was heavily wounded on Aug. 8 when PKK militants opened fire on police teams conducting road checks on the Van-Hakkari motorway with long-barreled weapons.

Bol succumbed to his injuries a day later at hospital.

Meanwhile, one PKK militant was killed in an armed clash with security forces during operations in the Erciş district on Aug. 8.

In addition, a wide-scale operation has begun in the district to apprehend the fleeing militants.
