PKK demands apology from Turkish gov't for damaged cemetery in Mardin

The Kurdish Communities Union (KCK), the urban wing of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), yesterday called on the Turkish government to apologize for the destruction of a PKK cemetery in the southeastern province of Mardin.

“The government, the military and administrative officials who are on duty at the area must apologize and should make those responsible face justice. Only this kind of approach could allow them to take steps in the Kurdish problem and bring a democratic peace with Kurds,” said the KCK in a written statement.

A cemetery in Mardin’s Nusaybin district, where 43 PKK militants are buried, was reportedly damaged by unknown people on Sept. 2. The KCK claimed that the cemetery was destroyed by Turkish soldiers. It claimed that some of the bodies were removed from the graves while other graves were only damaged.
