PKK attacks military barracks in eastern Turkey

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) organized an armed attack on a military barracks in the town of Özalp in the eastern province of Van on the night of June 30, using long-barreled weapons. No injuries or deaths were reported. 

The attack took place around 9:30 p.m. and was directed against the Master Sgt. Erkan Durukan Barracks. The terrorists attacked to barracks with long-barreled weapons and rockets. After soldiers at the barracks instantly returned fire, the terrorists fled under cover of darkness. 

A large-scale operation was initiated in the district to find and arrest the fugitive terrorists, and no injuries or deaths were caused by the attack, the mayor of the town, İbrahim Dündar, said. 

PKK operation in Eruh: 5 arrested

In another incident, six people were taken into custody on charges of “aiding and abetting a terrorist organization” in connection with the PKK attacks on the Bilgili and Görendoruk Gendarmerie Stations in the town of Eruh in the Eastern province of Siirt, in which four soldiers were killed. 

The Gendarmerie conducted a series of operations in Eruh and surrounding villages seeking those involved in the attacks. In these operations, six people were identified as having allegedly aided and abetted the PKK attackers. After the testimonies of these six were taken, the suspects were sent to the courthouse in Eruh. Five were place under arrest and are being held in Siirt’s E-Type Closed Prison. The investigation into the incident is reportedly ongoing.
