Local media reported that Yaşar Ağıl had a heart attack while walking in Istanbul’s Sultangazi district on Jan. 31. While all passersby watched the pensioner lying on the pavement, a woman jumped out of her car and rushed to the scene to give him cardiac massage and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
An ambulance later arrived and took the man to a nearby hospital, where medical officials told journalists that the pensioner was still alive thanks to the woman’s intervention.
The woman, who returned to her car and drove away after saving his life, declined to reveal her identity or profession.
“The patient was not breathing and I couldn’t sense his pulse. He returned to life three times as I gave the first aid,” she said.
“And once again I saw an unconscious crowd around a patient. Most of our people know nothing about first aid and such incidents usually lead to chaos. We need more training,” the woman added. Local media later reported that the woman was identified as Gülşah Tunca Eren, a food engineer.
