Deniz Bezek, who played a character named “Mahir” on the crime drama Sıfır Bir (Zero One), was driving his own car when he was hit by the train in the southern Turkish province of Adana on Aug. 20.
Demirören News Agency reported the railroad crossing was unattended at the time of the crash.
The railway officer told police he had taken a restroom break and fled the scene after he saw the accident when he returned.
The police, who detained the officer, launched an investigation into the incident.
Some friends and relatives of the actor attempted to attack the duty officer's cabin.
Sıfır Bir, which takes its name from the first two numbers of the Adana license plate, had hit international fame when it was transferred from YouTube to BluTV, a paid subscription channel in Turkey.
The plot follows a group of young men from a hardscrabble Adana neighborhood as they form a gang and methodically eliminate their rivals.
“It is realistic. It is raw. It does not hide anything,” said Yiğit Çakır, 33, a barista and actor in Istanbul, who is one of the show’s fans. “They use the language we use in our daily life,” he had told the Washington Post last year.
