Turkish fashion designer happy about returning to village to become farmer
A fashion designer who once owned a boutique in an upscale Istanbul neighborhood has said she is happy and successful with her new life as a farmer in her little hometown. Click through for the story in photos...
Nevin Yüncü had closed her design workshop in Nişantaşı in 2003 after living in Istanbul for 10 years and decided to become a farmer in the western province of Tekirdağ, where she was born. (Photo: Alex Segre / Alamy)
“This is where I can breathe,” Yüncü told the state-run Anadolu Agency on Jan. 14, adding that she had moved to raise her daughter in a natural environment.
“After all the cars’ exhaust smoke and urban industry in Istanbul, the smell of soil and air here brings me peace. I’m 45, but people say I look like 35,” she added.
Nowadays, the designer-turned-farmer is taking care of the wheat that she cultivated in October.
“We’ll be planting sunflowers in the spring,” she added, noting that she would also try to produce organic legumes soon.
“I’m very happy for the job I have,” she said.
