Platinum plate inserted in baby rabbit’s leg injured in flood
Platinum plate inserted in baby rabbit’s leg injured in flood
A wild baby rabbit got a platinum plate inserted in its broken leg that was injured during the flood in northern Zonguldak province’s Ereğli district, Demirören News Agency reported on July 24.
The baby rabbit, which weighs around 144 grams, was injured as it was dragged away with floodwaters on July 18. After the flood, a citizen found the rabbit stuck to a tree branch and immediately took it to the nearest vet.
The vet’s X-ray scan revealed that the baby rabbit’s femur bone in its right hind leg was broken. After the diagnosis, the rabbit underwent surgery and got a platinum plate inserted in its broken leg.
“We have detected a break in its femur bone in the right hind leg. We called the National Parks [Directorate] because this is a wild animal; we cannot act on our own. Officials told us to perform the treatment, thus we did it,” said Hüseyin Demircan, the vet who performed the surgery.
“The surgery had many risks, but [the rabbit] came out of it in perfect health. There was a two-centimeter fracture, and we inserted a platinum plate,” he added. He said the baby rabbit will be handed over to the National Parks Directorate after it fully recovers.
