It had been closed for some time to undergo the works that aimed to address the danger caused by the rock masses around Karadağ Mountain where it is located.
It also attracts people to the Hagia Varvara Monastery, which is located on the road to Sümela. (dbimages / Alamy)
As it has already been opened partially, Turkish officials announced on Aug. 1 that the whole structure would be accessible to visitors by 2019.
The monastery's chapel is one of the new sections that would be open to visitors in Sept. 2018.
