CHP candidate İnce slams fake propaganda leaflets
The Republican People’s Party (CHP) presidential candidate Muharrem İnce slammed on June 22 those who distributed fake propaganda leaflets to undermine opposition parties. Click through for the story in photos from İnce's mass rally in Turkey's capital Ankara...
Unidentified people handed out a series of propaganda leaflets in Ankara ahead of the June 24 elections. The leaflet, which was designed to appear as produced by CHP, reads “When we will come to power, we will ban headscarves!” Other opposition parties, too, appeared on the fake leaflets. The one on the Kurdish issue-focused Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) carried the phrase, “Why don’t we have a Kurdish state on our southern border?”
After hundreds of social media users claimed that the fake leaflets were a pro-government black flag operation, İnce touched the issue during his rally in Ankara’s Anadolu Square on June 22.
“As myself and my party, we have nothing to do with these leaflets. These are just rags,” he said, “Those who produce these are frauds, liars. They can’t be Muslims or even humans.”
That was the second giant rally the opposition leader addressed within the space of two days, who would conclude his campaign in a rally in Istanbul on June 23.
“Tomorrow is the last evening. If you have the courage, confront me,” İnce told hundreds of thousands of people in Ankara, inviting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to a television debate.
“Look, that’s my last proposal to you ... If you want, I can even cancel my Istanbul rally for you. Come, confront me, let’s debate on TV,” he said.
İnce also accused the state-run Anadolu Agency and TRT television of committing a “constitutional crime” for failing to be even-handed.
“TRT aired Erdoğan for 181 hours, Muharrem Ince for 15 hours,” he said.
