Passenger, air traffic number rise in Turkey

The amount of air traffic and the number of passengers passing through Turkey’s airports kept rising in May when compared to the same month a year earlier, according to official data.

The airports served around 13.7 million passengers in May, as the number increased by 17.2 percent from the same period month of the previous year, the General Director of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) said in a statement.

The air traffic reached 59,049 in domestic flights with a 14.1 percent increase in the same period, while it rose to 51,517 in international flights with a 12.4 percent increase over the same period.

The number of the passengers in domestic flights rose to around 6.4 million with a 17.3 percent increase at this period, as the number in international flights reached nearly 7.1 million with a 17 percent increase.

The airports in Antalya, İzmir, Muğla (2) hosted almost 4.6 million passengers in May as the number of passengers in domestic flights showed a 14 percent increase from the same month a year earlier and the number of international flights increased by 11 percent.

Approximately 1,130 flights and 145,000 passengers pass through Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport in May.
