Pedro Agramunt, the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), currently visiting Turkey, has strongly condemned the attack that hit near Istanbul’s Beyazıt Square on the morning of June 7.

Condemning “the blind fanaticism of terrorists,” after a rush-hour car bomb attack targeting a bus carrying riot police killed 11 people and wounded 36 others, Agramunt voiced “solidarity” with the Turkish people and authorities and offered his condolences to the families of the victims.

He is currently in Ankara for a two-day official visit, and reportedly heard of the attack while holding a scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.

On the first day of his visit on June 6, Agramunt met with Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and the two discussed the issues of terrorism, migration and the refugee crisis. On the same day, he also met with Parliament Speaker İsmail Kahraman and held a closed-door meeting.

While in Ankara, meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and EU Minister Ömer Çelik were originally scheduled for Agramunt.
