Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş have lent support to the Turkish Medical Association’s (TTB) Ankara Chamber of Doctors, which stands trial for assisting injured protesters during the Gezi protests in 2013.

Kılıçdaroğlu, speaking at parliament on Feb. 17, said his party would give support to the chamber members who “had fulfilled their responsibilities.”

Demirtaş, addressing his party members at parliament, also said they would be in solidarity with the chamber members, whose trial is expected to conclude Feb. 20.

In 2014, the Ministry of Health filed a civil lawsuit against the members of the governing and disciplinary boards of the Ankara Chamber of Doctors.

The Ministry of Health demands the dismissal of the members of the TTB’s Ankara Chamber of Doctors who were “engaged in activities beyond the scope of their mission,” according to Law No. 6023 of the Turkish Medical Association.
