One soldier was killed late Nov. 5 in the Dicle district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır during clashes with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Beytullah Tercan was killed during the clashes near Görese Mountain in the Dicle district. His body was sent to the eastern province of Malatya on Nov. 6 after an official ceremony was held in Diyarbakır Military Hospital.

Diyarbakır Gov. Hüseyin Aksoy visited the soldier wounded in the same area during the clashes after the ceremony. The operations against PKK militants have started after an indeterminate curfew took effect in 22 neighborhoods in Dicle at 5 a.m. on Nov. 5.

The Governor’s Office said operations would be conducted against PKK militants in mountainous and forest areas between Dicle’s north and the Kurşunlu, Kırkpınar and Kayaş neighborhoods of the district.

The statement also said a curfew in effect since Nov. 4 in several neighborhoods in Diyarbakır’s Lice district was lifted at 5 a.m. on Nov. 5.
