One million people visited the Anıtkabir mausoleum of the nation’s founder, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in the capital Ankara on Nov. 10 at the 75th anniversary of death, according to the Turkish General Staff.

The number of visitors in Anıtkabir was 1,089,615 on Nov. 10, General Staff said in a statement released on its website today. The ceremonies of remembering the founder of the republic has started in the morning and continued until late night with torches lit.

In the previous years, the Anıtkabir was open until 5:00 p.m. during the Nov. 10 commemorations. However, this year the ceremonies were prolonged until 9:00 p.m. as it was the 60th anniversary of bringing Atatürk’s body from Ethnography Museum to the Anıtkabir. The lights were lit for around an hour and the ceremonies ended at around 9:00 p.m.
