One man dies in collapse at construction site of ministry building in Ankara

Eyewitnesses said site watchman Hüseyin Sayan was checking an underground leak when the accident happened.

One person has died after being trapped under rubble following a collapse during construction at the Agriculture Ministry in Ankara, in the early hours of Sept. 1.  

Eyewitnesses said site watchman Hüseyin Sayan was checking an underground leak when the accident happened at around 4 a.m.

Efforts to rescue Sayan by the Turkish disaster and emergency agency, the fire department, and Turkey’s national medical rescue organization, went on for over five hours, but by the time they reached him it was too late.

Officials have said the accident was caused by an explosion of the sewage pipe.
