Outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants staged a gun attack on Sept. 11 on a soup restaurant in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, killing two civilians and wounding four, including police officers, inside and outside the restaurant.

PKK militants targeted a soup restaurant where police officers and civilian clients were sitting in the Yenişehir district. According to reports, three police officers and two civilians were wounded in the attack, while police officers sitting in front of the restaurant were badly wounded. Şeyhmus Sanır, a waiter at the restaurant, succumbed to his injuries in hospital after he was shot in the head.

On Sept. 12, Osman Saim Çetin, 66, died at Gazi Yasargil Education and Research Hospital in Diyarbakır where he was being treated.

The Diyarbakır Governor’s Office said the PKK militants responsible for the attack had been identified, adding that a wide-scale operation was being conducted to apprehend the militants.

Meanwhile, in a separate attack in Diyarbakır, outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants opened fire on a patrolling police vehicle in the Kayapınar district with long-barreled weapons, wounding two policemen.

Two police officers were slightly wounded during a short clash with the militants when the broken glass of the vehicle fell on them.
