Nazi victims compensated

BERLIN - Agence France-Presse
The German government said yesterday it had started paying compensation to victims of a far-right cell believed to be behind a seven-year-long serial killing spree. A spokeswoman for the justice ministry said it had received “a lot of applications,” adding that payments of between 5,000 and 10,000 Euros had already been made to some victims. She said Berlin aimed to approve the payouts in an “unbureaucratic” way so that victims would not have to provide detailed reports of their suffering. In November it emerged that a neo-Nazi gang was presumed to be behind the unsolved murders of 10 people.
