English forward Darius Vassell was evicted from his hotel room after his club Ankaragücü failed to pay the room charge, NTV Spor Web site reported on Thursday.
The former English international, who has been staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ankara since his arrival at the Turkcell Super League club at the start of the season, was given a warning to leave his room late Wednesday. The 29-year-old player said that he tried to contact the club’s board members but could not reach anyone.
“I have been told that the club talked to the hotel managers, but I could not contact board members,” Vassell was quoted as saying on the Web site. “I don’t know what to do. I am waiting for an explanation and will decide on my future at the club depending on that explanation.”
Vassell’s woes have been added to a list of troubles at the Ankara club. On Wednesday, coach Hikmet Karaman announced that the club board changed the training schedule without asking him.
It was reported that Ankaragücü players were told by the club board on Tuesday that the morning training was canceled.
Finding only a few players at the training ground, Karaman said he would file a complaint against the club.
