Turk caught with bullets on way to U.S.

Font Size: Larger|Smaller

Police Wednesday detained a 62-year-old Turkish passenger bound for the United States after bullets were discovered in his luggage at Istanbul's main airport.

The 34 bullets were found in the man's hand luggage on the last security check at the Atatürk Airport when he was about to board a British Airways flight to London, from where he was to travel on to the United States.

The man told the police his wife had packed the bag and the bullets were mistakenly put there.

Turkish news agencies reported that he would face further interrogation by prosecutors.

With such a short news story to comment on, it is necessary to assume things just to have a discussion of decent length.

So I wonder what this guy answered when the airline ground staff asked the standard security questions at check-in? Q. Did you pack your own bag sir?

Hmmmmmm, I wonder if cries of 'terrorism' would be resounding around the Turkish press had this gentleman who 'mistakenly' got a bullet into his bag was of Kurdish origin.
