Military allegedly planned to send false letters to papers
The Turkish military planned to send fabricated letters to a newspaper and to finance movies about terrorism and religious fundamentalism, according to a third letter allegedly sent by an anonymous military officer, reported daily Radikal on Tuesday.
According to the Radikal report, the letter was sent to the chief prosecutors of the Ergenekon case.
The letter claimed the military had plans to send the fabricated letters to a columnist at the daily Hürriyet, which would then publish the letters supposedly written by a young girl forced to wear a headscarf.
According to the third letter, two movies about religious fundamentalism and terror were going to be funded. “550,000 Turkish Liras are going to be given for the two movies. If the movies raise greater public awareness, then the financial aid will be increased,” said the document sent to the Ergenekon prosecutors.
Ergenekon is an alleged organization accused of aiming to topple the government and end the religious movement led by cleric Fetullah Gülen.
