Israel’s minister of industry, trade and labor arrived in Turkey on Monday with the intention of strengthening the countries’ relationship and “bringing it back to the way it was before.”
During his visit to Istanbul, Benjamin Ben-Eliezer focused on Turkish-Israeli economic relations and Turkey’s role in the region. Representatives from Israel's 24 most important companies accompanied Ben-Eliezer on his visit.
"I came to Turkey with representatives of Israeli companies involved in infrastructure, water and environmental projects," Ben-Eliezer said at a news conference Monday.
"As Israelis, we want to make sure that the Turkish people and their leaders realize that we are willing to continue our relations as they were before,” he said.
In an interview with broadcaster CNNTürk, Ben-Eliezer responded to whether he thought Turkey had turned its gaze to the East. “Turkey is a strong country, and it has to choose a position without bias, especially in order to serve as a mediator,” he said.
