Istanbul hosted world-renowned fashion brands for three days at a fashion gala titled “Fashionable Istanbul By Avea.” The event ended Monday night with two fashion shows by famous Italian brand Missoni and the craziest designer in the fashion world, Vivienne Westwood.
Before the Westwood and Missoni shows, the Young Designers' show was presented by LaSalle graduates and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Handicrafts Courses, or İSMEK, students. The Young Designers, who presented their creations before the representatives of fashion giants including Cavalli, Ferragamo, Westwood, Missoni and Ferre, were praised by the audience.
Following Turkish designers, Westwood’s 2009-2010 collection was presented. The collection, designed under the theme of Rainforests, drew great attention. Westwood, who loves rain and attaches great importance to protecting the rainforests, said in an interview before the show, “Rain is the only thing that makes our gardens beautiful.” Famous top-model Jessica Stam was the top model of Westwood’s show titled “Anglomania.”
The closing show was from Italian brand Missoni, during which the brand presented its 2009-2010 Fall-Spring collections.
Among the viewers of the event, which was organized on a platform set up on the sea at the Dolmabahçe Palace Square, were Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş, Missoni with his family, top model and the face of the event Bar Rafaeli, and famous U.S. actor Bruce Wills and his wife Emma Heming.
