Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Cağlayan formally inaugurated Turkey's consulate-general in the Iraqi city of Mosul, third stop of their tour in Iraq.

The consulate-general has been active since 2006 but formal inauguration ceremony was held on Saturday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Cağlayan said that Turkey would always stand by Iraqi people with its politicians and businessmen, reported Anatolia news agency.

"Today, we, as children of Ottomans, are here to show interest to development of Mosul just as our ancestors showed centuries ago," Cağlayan said.

Turkey wanted to take an important role in the reconstruction of Mosul, he said.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu met Friday with Massoud Barzani, head of the regional administration in northern Iraq, in Arbil on Friday and discussed the Turkish government's democratic move and efforts to eradicate the terrorist organization PKK.

Davutoğlu told Barzani that Iraq and Turkey would enter a "bright era" in relations, if the terrorist organization was dissolved, Anatolia news agency quoted diplomats as saying.

"Davutoğlu also said there were three legs in the fight against terrorism, which he put as ‘fight inside Turkey, fight in the north of Iraq and fight in Europe,’" the diplomats said.

Davutoğlu also asked the regional administration to help Turkey root out the PKK from  Kandil Mountain.

Barzani said the terrorist organization would either change itself after the Turkish government's democratic move, or it would fail because of pressure asserted by Kurdish people.

Davutoğlu  also spoke at a joint press conference with Nechirvan Barzani, an administrator of the Regional Kurdish Administration in northern Iraq, at Arbil Airport before his departure to Mosul, reported Anatolia news agency.

“There will be a flow of goods and people between the two countries,” said Davutoğlu, stressing that they considered the threats against Iraq as threats against Turkey. Davutoğlu said that Turkey and Iraq would be a very strong axis.

Still the same racist, Kemalist tone but we should note that the article is not done by Hurriyet but rather another news agency. I think Hurriyet is very impartial in it's news and it reflects a genuine journalism. Secondly, in responce to Turk's comment; your labeling anything Kurdish as been PKK and as you claimed child killers. My answer to you is wake up of your fascist dream of grandeuos Turkish nation of the she-wolf Asena. It's 21st century, wake up and accept the reality that Kurds are here to stay, with all the massacres you have brought upon Kurds children and defenceless women, they defied you and remains here today to resist you. I just wonder, if you take so much pride of been a discard of a she-wolf Asena and a Mongol, how much pride should Kurd take for been a pure Arian race and an Indo-European?

Unfortunately you still see in one eye. You have to see the truth as it is, not as what you want.

I absolutely agree with Delêr... Your language is still with the same phrases and the same unfriendly sound... I think you must try to make a difference... There is a Kurdish government, Kurdish president, Kurdish prime minister, Kurdish ministers... You are journalists, you are not politicians. You can call them as their real title-name.

Through this move made by Davutoğlu, Turkey showed its endorsement that there is an official kurdish presence in northen iraq.Unfortunately the people who are resposible for leading the country do not behave as they are expected to. There is an terrorist organization against our country in that region and as is known this is very obvious but despite this we prefer dealing as if we were guilty in return for fighting.

Barzani is the president of Kurdistan region in Iraq according to Iraqi constitution this region is legal and official so why you don't use "Kurdistan" instead of Northern Iraq? a racism? or you just want to be like ostriches?! deny a truth that it's already exist. Check out Today Zaman they put a picture of Oglu and Barzani with cropping Iraqi and Kurdistan flag, just showed Turkish flag..I think with this mentality the tolerance and the peace is meaningless.

I think it is time to stop ignoring many facts regarding kurds, espicialy as very sharer of very history and defender of the othomn impirer from beginning of its building till the liberation after World war I, as kurds firctly fighted beside turks.we kurds wont to forget all what what happened afterward just to begin a new flowersh era in accordans with ahe turkish govermen intiatine (kurdish initiative) and the sake of its success , so please donot continue ignoring us. I am sure in this spirit all the region of moddle east will get sable an properious one. and finally let cangratulate PM ardogan fore dare and barvnis launshin the intaiave, which is a hiostoric events.

I happy for Davuts visit to Kurdistan region. I think you guys should be more friendly with us kurds. Because the turkish politic is in change, and will not be the same as it was in 1920s. There is no administration area, but Kurdistan region by iraqi constitution and laws. EU and FN recognize Kurdistan region. Iran, Egypt, all of arabic countries alot of europian countries? what will be happened to turkey if they say Kurdistan region? Ohhh, thats so difficult... but anyway we control you now and the kurds can make a economic crise in turkey if they want. Just to give all turkish 720 companies outway from kurdistan and stoping their work. Then it will be hell in turkey, and Hurriyet can say what they want. Remember we are not afair of turkish army or turkey as country. We just are afraid of Allah. We are moving a smart politic now, binding turkey with us in economic, and then there will be no place for turkey to think about the militery option. a reader from Kurdistan region.

I wonder if davutoğlu and his close friends do really suppose people value their fantastic idea of being new ottomans and hence having both global and regional political influence....also to deler: how can one recognise kurdish leader barzani as a real prime minister as he,too, considers himself as a local administrator.secondly,it is hard to agree you that today's zaman or any other fethullah community partner publications are friendly and impartial.

Guest - Delér (2009-10-31 18:40:33) :

an administrator? THe name is Prime minister! Or is it too difficult for you guys to accept the fact the Kurds do run their own government? I read Today Zaman and I have to say that they use a much more friendly language. Perhaps you should read that paper, for the sake of tolerance...
