After days of dispute, Ankaragücü announced that it parted ways with coach Hikmet Karaman.
Ankaragücü chairman Ahmet Gökçek said late Thursday that Karaman’s contract with the Turkcell Super League club was unofficial, adding that the search for a new coach had begun.
Earlier this week, Karaman complained about the club board’s changing the training schedule without asking him.
It was reported that Ankaragücü players were told by the club board on Tuesday that the morning training was canceled.
However, on Thursday, Gökçek said the club informed Karaman on Tuesday that he was not at the Ankaragücü helm and his deal was never official.
Gökçek said: “The signature on the contract is that of Serdar Özersin, who has no power of signing in the name of our club.”
Several media reports said Ankaragücü started talks for a deal with Romanian football legend Gheorghe Hagi. The former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Galatasaray midfielder had short coaching spells at Galatasaray, Bursaspor, Steaua Bucharest and the Romanian national football team.
