The ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, will convene its traditional winter camp this weekend in Kızılcahamam, a district near Ankara, to discuss the future of the Kurdish initiative, among other issues. The party will also set targets and goals for next year.
Deputies, senior members and advisers of the AKP will come together under the leadership of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the meetings, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu will brief the participants about the reconciliation process with Armenia, chief negotiator Egemen Bağış will speak about the ongoing negotiations with the European Union, State Minister Faruk Çelik will speak about the government’s Alevi initiative and Interior Minister Beşir Atalay will speak about the Kurdish initiative.
Following the weekend gathering, deputies and top AKP figures are expected to disperse across Anatolia to inform their constituents about the party’s latest plans. Prime Minister Erdoğan, himself, is planning to visit 50 cities. In addition, CDs and booklets concerning these moves will be distributed in provincial towns.
The camp is expected to conclude with a comprehensive address delivered by the prime minister late Sunday.
