Man detained for beating wife in street in Turkey's southeast as footage stirs outcry

A 29-year-old man in the southeastern province of Kahramanmaraş was detained by the police after footage showing him beating his wife in the street went viral on Oct. 31.
According to Demirören News Agency, the assault by the man, identified only as Musa. K., was captured on camera by a passerby at an empty lot in the Şaziye neighborhood on Oct. 30.
The man was seen repeatedly hitting the face of his 24-year-old wife, who was carrying a baby and accompanied by two children.
The agency added that the woman did not file a criminal complaint as police continued interrogation on Oct. 31.
