Locals save life of stranded caretta caretta turtle in Turkey’s Muğla An unconscious caretta caretta turtle that came ashore in the Aegean province of Muğla on March 12 has been saved by locals, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Local walkers noticed the stranded caretta caretta on land in the Yalancıboğaz area of Muğla’s Marmaris district, after which they informed the Environmentalist Association of Marmaris.

The head of the association, Ahmet Kutengin, subsequently arrived in the area with other association members, who made sure the 18-kilogram turtle remained wet.

The caretta caretta eventually regained consciousness and was released into the sea once again.

Association members suggested that the turtle could have come ashore due to illness or undernourishment.

Kutengin also said they had experienced such incidents in almost every shore of Marmaris, adding that they had repeatedly informed local officials but had received no response.
