A 54-year-old man who spent years inventing a new type of voltage device in the eastern province of Erzurum has expressed his disappointment after waiting for hours for high-level officials who never arrived as promised at a promotional event for the invention.

“I completed the invention which I had been working on for years. I organized an event and invited officials to come. I invited statesmen days before the event. Their secretaries said they would attend the event. I prepared some stuff as best as I could and also bought a lamb to sacrifice,” said Ebubekir Taşbaşı, a retired  electrician, according to Doğan News Agency.

“I waited excitedly for them to come. I only realized after many hours that they weren’t going to come. I was embarrassed by the situation,” he said.

Erzurum Gov. Seyfettin Azizoğlu, Erzurum Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Sekmen, Yakutiye Mayor Ali Korkut and police chief Kamil Karabörk were all expected to attend the event.

Taşbaşı called the officials’ assistants a number of times during the event, but no officials ultimately came to the launch, which also included a cocktail.

The inventor ultimately introduced his device to a few friends and some local journalists.
