Live streaming from clashes in Istanbul after Gezi victim Berkin Elvan’s funeral

ISTANBUL

Tens of thousands have gathered near the cemevi in the Okmeydanı neighborhood in central Istanbul to attend the funeral of Berkin Elvan, the 15-year-old teenager who lost a long battle after being injured by a gas canister during the Gezi protests.

Elvan’s death on March 11, after spending 269 days in coma, sparked fresh anti-government protests across the country. Most of the protests were suppressed by heavy-handed police interventions, causing scenes reminiscent of last year’s Gezi demonstrations.

After the funeral finished, clashes between police and protesters started in Istanbul.
