Kuwait is expected to sign a $1 billion contract within two weeks on a joint venture with Italy’s Salini Impregilo and Turkey’s Limak Construction for its planned South al-Mutlaa City project, an official said May 25, according to Reuters.

The contract will cover construction of a road and other infrastructure and be funded by the Kuwaiti government from its own reserves, Naser Khraibut, director of planning at the country’s Public Authority for Housing Welfare, told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Dubai.

The Gulf state will also sign a contract this month worth between $80 million and $90 million with Hill International to manage the building of South al-Mutlaa City, Khraibut said.

Limak announced that last year that it had won a tender to build the new terminal at Kuwait International Airport for $4.34 billion.

Limak, which has interests in many fields from energy to construction, recently won a huge tender to build the Asian section of a motorway project that will connect to a new bridge over Istanbul’s Bosphorus Strait together with another Turkish company.

Limak Holding, part of the consortium building Istanbul’s third airport, built the new terminal in Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport as well as the new terminal in the Kosovo Pristina Airport.
