The Democratic Union Party (PYD) flag was replaced by the Kurdish National Council flag in the northern Syrian town of Ras al-Ayn early on July 26.

The flag of the PYD, which had been flapping at a nine-storey building since July 19, was removed to be replaced by the flag of the Kurdish National Council.

The PYD flag was hoisted last week after the PYD military forces largely took control of Ras al-Ayn after clashes with the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front that began on July 16.

Bullets fired during the clashes in Ras al-Ayn killed two and injured three Turkish citizens in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa’s Ceylanpınar district, which borders the Syrian town.

The hoisting of the PYD flag had caused reactions in Turkey, as it could clearly be seen from Ceylanpınar.
