Atiker Konyaspor claimed the Turkish Super Cup after defeating the reigning league champion Beşiktaş 2-1 on Aug. 6.

The match at the Samsun Yeni 19 Mayıs Stadium saw last season’s league champion Beşiktaş go against Turkish Cup winner Atiker Konyaspor.

The underdog Konyaspor made the first goal in the 33rd minute, when Burkinese attacking midfielder Abdou Traore defeated Beşiktaş goalkeeper Fabricio with a finesse shot. In the second half, Beşiktaş increased pressure on Konyaspor, ending up scoring the equalizer in the 77th minute. Striker Cenk Tosun managed to hold off Konyaspor defenders inside the six-yard box and found the back of the net with a power shot.

Just when it seemed the match would go into extra-time, Konyaspor succeeded to win a penalty in the 90th minute, when Bourabia was taken down inside the area by Pepe.

Slovenian right-back Nejc Skubic made no mistake and scored the game-winning penalty shot.

With the victory, Konyaspor became the second non-Istanbul team to win the trophy since 2006, when the organization changed its name to the Turkish Super Cup from the Presidential Cup. Trabzonspor managed to claim the Turkish Super Cup in 2010.
