Kerim Uras appointed as ambassador to Athens

ANKARA – Hürriyet Daily News

The appointment of Kerim Uras as Turkey’s new ambassador to Athens was made official yesterday as the government decree announced new replacements in the Official Gazette.

Uras, general-director of the Greece-Cyprus desk of the Foreign Ministry, had been nominated as the Turkish envoy to Israel, but the process was stopped due to deterioration in ties between the two countries. The diplomat has vast experience in Greece-Cyprus dossier and was serving as the head of a relevant desk.

The decree declared Ahmet Ergin, who was serving as general-consul in Juba before South Sudan won its independence, has been appointed as the Turkish ambassador. Turkey’s Ambassador to Norway Hayati Güven will replace Ambassador to Santiago Mehmet Akat who returns to Ankara. Güven will be replaced by Ambassador Şanıvar Olgun.

Turkey’s general-consul in Mumbai, India will serve in Namibia as Turkey’s ambassador, according to the decree.
