Kale inks jet engine deal with ministry

Deputy Minister Yardımcı (L) and Kale’s Bodur gesture at a signing ceremony.

The Defense Ministry and Kale Group signed a deal for turbo jet engine production to be used for military aircraft and missiles.

Such projects would cut foreign dependency in the defense industry and the ministry always supported them, said Deputy Minister Hasan Kemal Yardımcı, adding they wished these works would increase in number.

The project granted the Kale Group the honor of developing the first national jet motor, said İbrahim Bodur, the founder and honorary president of Kale. The project was assumed by Kale Havacılık, a subsidiary of Kale Group, he said.

Yardımcı said he had been a dealer of Çanakkale Seramik, a subsidiary of Kale Group, in the northeastern coastal province of Rize for years, and it was a very important moment for him to be a part of the signing ceremony with İbrahim Bodur, who is a family friend.

Noting that it was a hard job technology-wise, Turkish Defense Industry Undersecretary Murad Bayar said the technologies that would be utilized within the project were very important in laying foundations for future projects.

Forty-seven engineers and academics and 10 technicians will be employed in the project, said Osman Okyay, head of the Technical and Chemistry Department at Kale Holding, adding they would collaborate with Istanbul Technical University and the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK).
